Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to year 3! The teacher in year 3 is Mrs Wilkinson and the Teaching Assistants are Mrs Walters and Mrs Collier.
Year 3 is the first year of KS2 and an exciting big step up for the children. Throughout the year, our year 3 pupils will be learning how to play the ukulele.
During the Autumn term, we will study the Stone Age to Iron Age and explore what it may have been like to live in those times. We will also be studying light in our Science lessons and learn why light is important. In the second part of the term, we will learn about some of the physical features of Britain including the counties and cities. We will also learn how to use a map to find different places using the 8 points of a compass. In Science we will study forces and magnets and discover more about the properties of materials.
During the Spring term, we will study volcanoes, rivers and earthquakes and link this to our science topic of rocks. We will complete some interesting investigations into the properties of rocks and demonstrate how a volcano erupts thinking about the impact this has on people’s lives. We will be using our knowledge to create a volcano picture in art based on the artist Eric Carle. Later in the Spring term, we will focus on Rochdale and the importance of the Rochdale Pioneers in the cooperative movement. In Science we will look at plants and what keeps them alive and helps them to grow.
In the Summer term we will be learning all about the Ancient Greeks. We will study their life, culture and the impact they have on our lives today. In science we will study Animals including Humans where we will learn all about skeletons and what we need in order to live a healthy life. This also links to our DT topic of food including a healthy and varied diet and also our PSHE topic of health and wellbeing.
