Year 3 is the first year of the juniors at Sacred Heart and is an exciting big step up for the children!
During the Autumn term, we will look at the Stone Age to Iron Age and explore what it may have been like to live in those times. We will also be studying light in our Science lessons and how we see. In the second part of the term, we will learn about some of the physical features of Britain and its counties and cities. We will also learn how to use a map to find different places using the 8 points of a compass. In Science we will study magnets and discover more about the properties of materials.
During the Spring term, we will study at volcanoes, rivers and earthquakes and how this links with our science topic of rocks. We will do some interesting investigations into the properties of rocks and demonstrate how a volcano erupts thinking of the impact this has on both people and the environment around. Later in the Spring Term, we will look at Rochdale and the importance of the Rochdale Pioneers in the cooperative movement. In Science we will look at plants and what keeps them alive and helps them to grow.
In the Summer term, Year 3 will be learning about the Ancient Greeks. We will look at their life, culture, inventions and what they did that has impacted our lives today. In science we will look at animals including humans and what we need in order to live healthily.
